Since October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, BHS Student Council organized a fundraiser to benefit the American Cancer Society. Last week’s student-led activities included selling donuts, paying $1 to wear a hat and paying a fee to duct tape Mr. Harris, principal, to the pole outside the counseling office.
The Branson School District will hold parent/teacher conferences October 14 (grades 7-12) and October 27 (grades PK-6). The district requests that parents attend these scheduled conferences to meet with teachers and receive an update on their student’s academic status.
The employees from community partner Kohl’s Department Store visited two classrooms at Cedar Ridge Elementary last Thursday. Students in Mrs. Blackerby’s class and those in Mrs. Hughes class received a book to take home thanks to the generosity of Kohl’s.
Third graders in Jennifer Thomas’ class at Buchanan Elementary have adopted local law enforcement officials as their community service project for the school year. The students invited Missouri State Troopers from Taney and Stone County to the classroom to show their appreciation for service to the community.
Over 60 first-year members of the BHS FFA club attended the Missouri University Research Center’s annual Field Day on September 9. MU Field day is designed to showcase some of the many agricultural careers available and provide information about those careers to high school students.
Buchanan Intermediate has been selected to participate in a global partnership program through the JDO Foundation beginning this school year. The JDO Foundation is an educational, non-profit organization committed to fostering the use of technology in classrooms for third through sixth graders around the world.
Branson Bank president, Bill Jones, presented a $700 check to Dr. Swofford on Monday in support of Character Education in the district. The money was raised by the bank employees who have an opportunity to dress casual each Friday for a donation of $5.
The Branson School District’s preschool program has earned national accreditation for its programs and services from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). The preschool program is under the direction of Shelly Worley, Cedar Ridge Primary principal.
