Owney the Mail-Pouch Pooch has arrived in Missouri! Owney loves to travel, and he is ready to explore the Show Me State. Join the Missouri Owney Project to share in his adventures and learn more about our great state as Owney visits schools across Missouri.
Owney was a real dog that traveled the railways as the mascot for the Railway Mail Service back in the 1880s and 1890s. On his travels he collected various mail tags and trinkets from the places he visited so that the postmen who cared for him could see where he went.
Our Owney, a gift from Mona Kerby, the author of the Show-Me Award nominated book Owney the Mail-Pouch Pooch, will be traveling the great state of Missouri and wants to visit the library at your elementary school! Visit the Registration page to find out what you need to do if you would like Owney to vist your school.
The project runs from November 29, 2010 to
April 29, 2011. |
