Portrait of a Pirate

What is Portrait of a Pirate?

Through significant engagement and feedback with 77 community members, 78 educators (including teachers, Board members, curriculum specialists and others), and 54 Branson students, we now have a collective vision that articulates our aspirations for every student.

The Portrait of a Pirate ensures that Branson Schools students develop certain strengths throughout their K-12 educational journey and are well-equipped for the broadest range of post-secondary opportunities - be it college, career, or military.

Now, more than ever, a student’s learning experiences must include rigorous academic content plus the durable skills and mindsets students need to thrive in the post-secondary plan of their choice. Portrait of a Pirate allows for deeper student learning and skill attainment, and bridges the gap between K-12 education and workforce readiness, supporting the district’s strategic plan.

The Portrait shows that student academic success matters, but so does a student’s ability to adapt, communicate, show compassion, think critically, model integrity, and never give up.
