BE in the Know ~Parent Edition
April 5, 2024 Update
A Community Committed to Learning!
Dear Parents,
As we're thankful for the sunshine upon us, I first wanted to say thank you for sharing your sunshine (little ones) with us at Buchanan Elementary! It has been an honor and pleasure to work with your child(ren) this year as they give us so much joy!
Additionally, with all the end of year happenings, I wanted to keep you in the know and send out one last family newsletter with important updates and information. If you look closely (bolded items within the Save the Dates section), you'll find we've have added several end of year events you might want to add to your calendar!
Finally, thanks for a great year partnering with Buchanan Elementary! As we start to wrap up the school year, we didn't want it pass by without saying THANK YOU for always supporting your child, our teachers, our school, and helping make BE a great place to learn, grow, play, partner together, and work! We greatly appreciate YOU!
Monday's Solar Eclipse
As you likely know this coming Monday, April 8th, there will be a total solar eclipse visible in our area and our teachers are planning special class activities to coincide with this rare event.
The safety and educational value of this experience are paramount. We have acquired solar glasses for each student to safely observe the eclipse. These glasses meet necessary safety standards and will allow students to view the eclipse outside with their class. We ask that you help us to emphasize the importance of your student not removing their eclipse glasses at any time during the viewing as looking directly at the sun could cause eye damage or other unknown effects.
We believe that experiences like this not only enhance our students' understanding of the world around them but also spark curiosity and a love for learning. We encourage you to discuss the eclipse with your child at home and reinforce the importance of following the directions of their teacher as they facilitate class activities with safety in mind.
Additionally, if you wanted to send in some themed snacks for your child's classroom (if you haven't already and we recognize it's last minute so don't worry if you can't), teachers would gladly accept them to make the day extra special. Here are some fun ideas of snacks if you are able and willing:
- Starry soda
- Sunkist soda
- Moon pies
- Star Crunch
- Cosmic Brownies
- Sun Chips
- Milky Ways
- Eclipse or Orbit gum
- Starburst candy
If you have any questions regarding our plans for April 8th, please don't hesitate to reach out to us. Thank you for your support as we strive to provide engaging and enriching educational experiences for our students.
