The district has been awarded two grants from the Skaggs Foundation Legacy Fund to be used to enhance the lives of students. Grant presentations were made October 31 at a reception held at the Branson Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce offices and hosted by the Foundation. Over $1 million in grants was awarded to area organizations.
A $5,000 grant was awarded to the BHS Cents of Pride Store. Brad Swofford, superintendent, and Jack Harris, BHS principal, attended the reception to accept the grant. The store provides students with opportunities to purchase clothes, hygiene products, personal care items, coats (seasonal) and food (non-perishable food). No money is necessary at the Cents of Pride store. Students are awarded “pride bucks” by faculty members for having positive attitudes, good attendance and turning in class assignments on time. The “pride bucks” are used in the store for purchases.
The second installment of an $86,024 grant from 2018 was awarded. The grant provides outsourced mental health support for students who are unable to receive services through insurance benefits or Medicaid. Brad Swofford accepted the grant on behalf of the district.
